FSA Board agrees single approach to front-of-pack nutrition labelling 14 Mar 2010
At an open meeting held in Cardiff the Food Standards Agency's Board agreed to
the implementation of a single approach to front-of-pack (FOP) nutrition
labelling
that will best help consumers make healthier choices when they buy food. The
FSA states that Food businesses will be advised to use the three elements,
traffic light colours, text (high medium or low) and percentage Guidelines
Daily
Amounts (%GDAs) which have been found by independent research to help UK
consumers
interprets nutritional information. The Board's recommendation clearly signals
that the Food Standards Agency does not support FOP labels using only % GDAs,
but
that % GDAs should be combined with either traffic light colours or text, and
should ideally have all three elements.
