IFST has set up two surveys to gather views from employers and colleges/universities on work experience placements
2014 marks the Institute of Food Science & Technology's Golden Jubilee – a significant milestone for any organisation. As well as our plans to celebrate this anniversary IFST would also like to use this as an opportunity to develop and deliver something very tangible and enduring in support of those involved in the food sector and the profession.
Ahead of, and as a pre-cursor to this, IFST wants to explore the issues around the current provision of work experience in the food sector – from school placements right through to university placements, internships and holiday placements. In doing this, it will not only form the basis of a report but also help determine the precise nature of the support IFST needs to provide. To this end, we have developed two questionnaires to gain and understand both employers’ and universities’ perspectives by investigating the issues around education/industry links and, in particular, the provision of food sector placements which will help to inspire our next generation of food scientists, engineers and technologists.
IFST would like to encourage all universities/colleges and employers from SMEs up to multinationals, private sector and public sector bodies throughout the food supply chain to complete the attached questionnaire. The more universities and companies that complete this survey the better picture they can gather for our sector.
