Informing Policy
IFST was established to advance the science of 'food science and technology',
its education and application for the benefit, safety and health of the public.
This includes raising the status and understanding of food science and technology
with government, employers, the media and the general public. By drawing on the
expertise of our members IFST is uniquely placed to provide independent
objective information and advice on all matters relevant to food science, food
technology and food professionalism. Our expert comments are publicly available and
uninfluenced by sectoral or "political" motives.
We provide authoritative professional comment and help to formulate public
policy on a range of educational, legislative and public issues both in the UK and
Europe, producing
Policy Statements and
Submissions on draft food legislation, educational, professional and other food related
issues.
We
represent professional scientific opinion to Government, national and international bodies and have formal and
informal links with a number of international organisations
