Continued professional development

Professional Development

As the leading professional qualifying body for food science and technology in Europe, IFST is responsible for maintaining advanced standards of qualifications and professional practice amongst food scientists and technologists.

IFST operates accreditation schemes for particular specialisms and professional practice

Like all professionals it is essential for food scientists and technologists to keep their skills and knowledge constantly updated and this is recognised in IFST’s Code of Professional Conduct.   We encourage our members to continue their professional education and development throughout their careers, eg through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

IFST has also joined forces with Marks and Spencer plc and the Food Standards Agency to accredit the CPD of their food scientists and technologists. If you are interested in finding out about how IFST can accredit the CPD of your company’s employees, click here.

The Food and Drink Federation and IFST have jointly published a CPD Guidance Document to help food safety professionals maintain and enhance their individual professional competence. View the Guidance Document.
