The North of England branch is holding its first ever Student Roadshow at the Garden Restaurant at Hollings Campus, Manchester Metropolitan University on Monday 13 February.
The Roadshow will be a relaxed and informative event where students can learn first-hand about IFST and careers in food science. The evening begins at 18.00 and for the first half, students will be free to make their way around the Garden Restaurant and talk to IFST members. There will be a buffet and an array of informal displays about different food science topics, each of which will be manned by an IFST member. The displays are as follows:
- Custard Challenge, showing food preferences and thixotrophic properties - Professor Graham Bonwick
- Food Fats Quiz - Dr. Anne West
- Cola Challenge - Dr. Lisa Marshall and Jemma Grime
At 19.00, Prof. Bonwick will speak to the crowd about IFST and the benefits of membership, which will be followed by five-minute presentations from a few IFST members about their career paths and their reasons for being in IFST. The evening will conclude around 20.00 with a dessert buffet and the food science display. A musical duet will play throughout the evening as appropriate.
