Nutrition for Olympians: Nutrition for All

Lessons for Food Science & Technology from the Sports Nutrition Sector

For a world class athlete, it’s all about maximising the body’s performance through strict training and optimal nutrition. Join us for this two-day event as we examine the nutritional, commercial and legal aspects within sports nutrition. The Conference is essential for anyone with an interest in sports nutrition or anyone interested in learning more about the sports nutrition sector.

Day one will feature the IFST SE branch Young Scientist 2012, the Binsted lecture and the IFST conference dinner.  Post-graduate students will pitch against each other, as they present their research to our judges for the title of Young Scientist at the free opening event.  Following the competition, IFT President, Roger Clemens, will explore the challenge of separating fact from fiction in the complex world of sports nutrition in this year’s Binsted Lecture, Nutrition’s Contribution to Sport Performance: Myths and Realities. The day will come to a close with the IFST conference dinner. Enjoy a 3-course meal, alongside award-winning English wine, at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking.

Day two of the conference will feature presentations from a wide selection of experts in the sports nutrition sector, including:

  • Professor Judith Buttriss, Director of the British Nutrition Foundation, will give the keynote address, Good nutrition for all: The challenges and opportunities ahead
  • Professor H David McCarthy, Professor of Nutrition and Health at London Metropolitan University, will examine how our current environment is contributing to the rise of obesity and related disease and what must be done to prevent an epidemic of diet-related diseases in today’s children.
