IFST Food Safety events are interactive sessions for IFST members who might not be able to commit to a full day conference but still need to have an understanding of a subject in their role. They feature expert advice on a hot topic in the food industry followed by a discussion to share knowledge and experiences.
Speaker Dr Lisa Ackerley, is passionate to translate science into easily understood concepts, and wants to provide practical solutions to every day food safety challenges - whether it is for the consumer of the food industry. If it is easy to understand, then there is some chance of behavioural change.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr Lisa Ackerley has been a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner for over 30 years and her work has taken her on some very interesting journeys. Ever since writing her PhD, Lisa has been passionate about making a difference to public health by ensuring environmental hygiene issues are easy to understand – whether you are at home, work or on holiday.
For 28 years Lisa ran her hygiene consultancy business Hygiene Audit Systems, which was acquired by Acoura (now part of Lloyds Register. She continues to work in the commercial food safety arena, as a strategic adviser to the Acoura Board, and working as an expert witness for food law and practice. She is called upon to comment on public hygiene issues in the media on a regular basis and appears on prime time consumer shows such as Watchdog, Rogue Restaurants and Holiday Hit Squad in addition to many radio shows and TV news programmes. She is Visiting Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Salford and Professorial Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, where she is also chair of the Food Special Interest Group. Lisa is a Trustee and Deputy Chairman of the IFH which is a great source of scientific information on home hygiene. More recently she has been appointed as Food Safety Adviser to the British Hospitality Association and works with the The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as a member of the learning and qualifications committee. She is currently working on a number of projects with WRAP on reducing food waste in the hospitality industry.
