Visit to Wilkin & Sons Ltd

Registration is closed for this event
Organised by IFST's Eastern Branch

IFST's Eastern Branch has secured this as an annual visit for IFST members and is suited to anyone with an interest in the manufacture of jams, conserves, marmalades, preserves and honey together with those interested in seeing the horticultural practices that sit behind one of the UK’s longest established yet leading edge family fruit farms.

A walk through the factory provides a fascinating insight to the modernisation of an age-old process sited within an historic building that displays links back to a time when local modes of transport were distinctly different to today. A tour of the fruit farms, weather permitting, allows attendees the opportunity to inspect various varieties of fruit grown in the fields and plantations adjacent to the factory.

Robert Parker, Factory Manager and Head of Technical, who will be leading the tour, has spent more than 30 years in the jam making industry, employed by 2 other well renowned jam manufacturers prior to arriving at Tiptree. Robert has in-depth knowledge of the product range, the process and the fruit suppliers based outside UK ( e.g. orange growers in Spain ). Robert heads a team of experts, some of whom may also be available to answer questions during the visit.

COST: FREE

WHO CAN ATTEND?  This is an IFST members only event.  please note that IFST members are able to bring a non-member guest.
