Want to get more involved?

Printer-friendly version

IFST currently has a number of opportunities for you to get involved which we believe will enhance your current career, in some cases give you experience in advance of your next role or simply provide you with the opportunity to give something back.

Central Committees

The aim of the Finance Committee is to review and oversee the financial management of the Institute, provide recommendations to the Board on developments, initiatives or responses within its remit.  They are currently seeking new members who have experience with budgets, risk, audit and compliance management.  If you are interested in finding out more about this committee, please contact Andrew Gardner for more information.

Professional Development

The Membership Assessment Panel is currently looking to recruit new assessors to help with the increasing number of applications for membership and the expansion of our professional registers. In particular we are seeking those who are Chartered or Registered Scientists.

An assessor's role involves examining new applications to determine eligibility for Membership and Fellowship and for the Science Council's Registers (Chartered Scientist, Registered Scientist and Registered Science Technician). It may also involve scrutinising registrants' CPD records as part of the Science Council's annual revalidation process.  The Panel conducts most of its assessments electronically and you will need to be willing to assess 3 or 4 applications per month at home, in addition to attending 2-3 meetings a year in London. Full training will be provided. If this is something that you are interested in or would like more information, please send a brief CV to Marjo Kiiveri

Are you a skilled expert who has an interest in contributing to the scientific voice of IFST? Experts in the following areas are needed to develop information statements for the IFST website, and responses to official consultations or press enquiries: food safety, food composition and nutrition, new technologies, EU food regulations/food law, agri-food and other areas.

This is opportunity for you to have your say on important topics, working with IFST and IFST’s Scientific Committee. Writing skills, commitment to deadlines and team work is expected from the volunteers.

Please contact John Bassett for further information with a short summary of your expertise area and C.V.
