Love Food, Love Science

What is Love Food Love Science?

Love Food Love Science gives secondary school teachers access to credible food science and technology teaching resources and mentoring support.  It is provided free by the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), a professional body for those involved in all aspects of food science and technology. IFST is an independent membership body, supporting food professionals through knowledge sharing and professional recognition.

We created Love Food Love Science to engage, encourage, motivate and share about food science and technology with those in the teaching profession, with resources providing practical applications meeting genuine need in the classroom.

We are passionate about food science and technology.  We want to pass on our excitement by helping teachers deliver engaging and relevant lessons and open young people’s eyes to the range of interesting and rewarding food science and technology careers.

Discover teaching resources

Love Food Love Science offers teaching resources for secondary school science at KS3 and KS4, specifically GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition as well more traditional sciences, such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Working Scientifically.

We have developed new resources from accedited sources (e.g. explanations of scientific concepts, lesson plans, food science investigations, and videos), as well as provided pages relevant to KS3 and KS4 curriculum .  Where credible and free-to-access resources already exist, we have compiled a directory of these to save teachers time and energy.  We have sprinkled real-world food science and technology examples into the resources to help teachers bring food science to life.

Our resources can be accessed using a simple search.

Find a mentor

As the voice of the food profession we recognise that we have a duty to promote scientific knowledge, offer-up an insight into the food sector, and set out some of the global food issues to help teachers equip their students, the next generation of food science and technology professionals, with the tools they need to tackle these important challenges head-on.

Teachers can search our directory of qualified and professionally recognised members who have been trained as mentors.  Mentoring can be as simple as a one-off telephone call or email to help a teacher to deal with a particular topic, or as complex as a series of virtual sessions or classroom visits to help a teacher and their class navigate a section of the syllabus.  Teachers in Scotland can also seek support directly through the Food and Drink (STEM) Ambassador Programme set up by FDF Scotland and Science Connects.
