Acrylamide: Formation & Control Mechanisms

Binsted Lecture

  • 4pm start. This is a joint meeting between the Branch, British Section of the IFT [Institute of Food Technologists], and the SCI. There will be two lectures – one by Professor Jeya Henry, a world class nutritionist, based at Oxford Brookes University, and the other by Marianne Gillette, the President of IFT. The meeting will be followed by a networking buffet.

  • 2pm to 4.30pm. A factory tour to see the intake of materials from the UK and continental Europe, preparation and cleaning of raw materials, packing and handling of prepared salads, laboratory controls, development department. Numbers are limited so early application is advised.

As Time Goes By..... -how time affects evaluations in Sensory and Consumer Science

  • A one day conference organised by the Professional Food Sensory Group. The full day programme runs from 9.30am – 4.00pm. This event will explore aspects of time in relation to sensory science such as shelf life assessments, the dynamics of liking, learning to like/effects of exposure and methodological issues including temporal assessments of whole products (e.g. TI and TDS), progressive profiling and comparison of traditional versus 'fast' profiling methods.

  • 1pm to 4.30pm. The visit will start with a sandwich lunch, kindly provided by Muntons, and will include visits to see the malting process, the production of malt extracts, malt flours and malted wheat flakes, and a tour of their new Centre for Excellence to look at applications of malt and malted ingredients. This is organised jointly by the IFST South Eastern and Eastern Branches. Numbers are limited, so early application is recommended.

Members are also able to bring along a colleague. The PFSG hold a series of forums throughout the year at different locations and would welcome suggestions from members on potential topics and venues.
