Zoe Ager - Data Analyst
High Speed Training (e-learning)

Zoe is a Data Analyst at High-Speed Training - an e-learning provider with over 180 online courses

Since graduating from UCB studying Food Science and Innovation, she has worked as a Quality Technician at Holden's Bottling Co. and Mondelez International as a Chocolate Scientist ensuring data integrity across European chocolate specifications. She then started as a Content Writer at High-Speed Training for food and drink courses before transitioning into data analysis. She is halfway through a part-time Masters in Computer Science with Data Analytics at York University to enhance and further her knowledge.

Day-to-day, she receives requests from content, design, customer facing teams and marketing looking for customer behaviour insights of how learners interact with our LMS (Learning Management System) to better inform course production decisions and add value to customer relationships by sharing those insights with managers. She also looks for trends and new insights using the existing data and creates interactive dashboards to communicate and visualise the data.

Alice Pontin - Retail Food Technologist
Marks and Spencer

As a Food Technologist within confectionery at M&S, Alice spends her days visiting chocolate and sweet factories across the world, pushing the boundaries of food science and innovation, owning food safety, and getting a healthy sugar hit as she goes. She is responsible for the safety, integrity, quality, and legality of her product ranges and work closely with her category team and supplier partners to bring the M&S magic to their customers.

Since the beginning of her degree at the University of Reading studying Food Science and Nutrition, she enrolled in all Food Technology early careers schemes available to her at M&S. These included the Summer Internship, Business Placement year, and Graduate Scheme, working across Deli, Fish, Hospitality, Groceries, Produce and Confectionery. Amongst that, she spent a period working for one of the multi-site seafood suppliers, giving her exposure to farming and manufacturing to get a well-rounded view of all aspects of the supply chain to supplement her role within retail.

Since completing the Graduate Scheme, she has been appointed directly into the role as Food Technologist with the ability to move between the various categories across the food group. At M&S the focus on people development is strong, both within the early career’s schemes and beyond. She has been supported in broadening her experience across the industry to complement her current role and increase the opportunities available to her for her future career within the business.

Mehmood Babar - Technical Manager

He is a successful Technical Manager with a proven record for driving and maintaining food safety and quality standards across the business; thus, in turn creating a sustainable business. He is highly motivated and will always lead from the front to reach the highest standards in every undertaken project. Within a Technical career built on a foundation of success over 1 decade in head of technical roles at large chilled food factories. These have included some of the largest, busiest and most complex food factories in the UK supplying all the major multiples.

He started his career as QA in Small factory and has made a progression to Technical Manager within a few years, ending up Head of Technical was the proudest achievement in his career.

Morten has worked in recruitment at MorePeople for 11 years, previously he worked in procurement for one of the UK’s largest cut flower businesses before moving over to sales and held account management roles in both cut flowers and the fresh produce sector. Morten is a specialist in commercial roles within food and fresh produce with a wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry.

Ivan Bartolo - Regulatory Affairs Advisor
Seafish Industry Authority

Since his first food laboratory job in 1984, Ivan has held several roles in the food sector, both in public service and in industry. He has worked in food analysis in Malta, in wastewater treatment in Libya, in seafood research in Denmark, and in food production in the UK. 

Ivan now works with the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish). His first role was to improve catch quality at sea. He also carried out audits of processing establishments, stores and fish and chip outlets. In 2005 he moved to the seafood regulation team as Regulatory Affairs Advisor, where he deals in with regulatory issues relating to seafood trade and seafood safety.

Ivan is involved in several government/industry expert groups, including the Seafish Importers Forum and various UK government-run Trade Forums. In 2011 Ivan was appointed President of the Seafood Importers and Processors Alliance (SIPA), an alliance of seafood industry leaders that works towards improving seafood’s reputation and the seafood regulatory landscape through science and information. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) and held the post of Chair of the IFST Scientific Committee from 2011 to 2013, where he continues to serve as a member.

Ivan Bartolo holds degrees in Pharmaceutical Technology, Food Technology and Applied Toxicology. 
 

Stephen French - Scientific Policy Director
Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST)

Stephen is responsible for leading IFST policy development and engagement on scientific and technical issues, and policy relevant to IFST mission in education, skills and professional recognition. In addition, he supports the External Affairs Advisory Committee and Consultations Group.  In this role, Stephen engages with key government departments from the UK nations, key opinion leader academics, and food sector industry leaders to support the IFST mission.

Prior to this, Stephen had an academic career in research and teaching prior to joining Mars Inc.  During his time with Mars Inc., Stephen worked in a variety of research and Scientific and Regulatory Affairs roles for the organisation in European and Global roles, and in Confectionery, Food, and Petfood sectors of the business 

Andrew Dockerill - Regulatory Affairs

Andrew graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2016 with a BSc Food Science and Nutrition Degree. He then completed the Bakkavor Accelerated Management Scheme (AMS) in Technical, working as a Process Technologist in Lincolnshire for an M&S exclusive ready meal site. He then became a Systems Coordinator in London at a site producing products for multiple retailers.

On completion of the graduate scheme, Andrew joined itsu [grocery] in a Quality Management role where he manages suppliers and co-packers globally across frozen, chilled and ambient products. Since then, Andrew has worked for Sainsbury's as a Product Technologist in the dairy category before shifting to his current role, managing Regulatory Affairs for some of the waters and dairy brands of Danone.  

Hayley White - Early Careers Manager
Greencore Foods

Hayley is the Early Careers manager at Greencore Foods and has over 10 years’ experience in learning and development. For the last 6 years’ her experience has focussed primarily on Early Careers and Apprenticeship programme management.

Her role focusses on ensuring that the Early Careers programmes delivered support the ongoing strategy of the organisation through talent development. She has also been an active member in the development of several Apprenticeship Trailblazer Standards.

Dr Cecile Morris – Head of Department for Service Sector Management
Sheffield Hallam University

Dr. Cecile Morris has a background in chemistry and food chemistry. After completing a PhD sponsored by Weetabix Ltd at the University of Nottingham, she moved to New Zealand to work in food analysis and specialised in pesticide and veterinary drug residues testing. She subsequently moved to France to work as a Laboratory Manager providing analytical services to the food industry and food retailers.

She came back to the UK and academia in 2007 to work on the impact of food structure on its sensory properties in the context of salt reduction. As a result of this, she developed an interest and expertise in sensory science, and she taught food composition and sensory evaluation for several years at the University of Nottingham and Sheffield Hallam University.

She is now Head of the Department for Service Sector Management at Sheffield Hallam University and supervises PhD and MSc students in the areas of food consumer attitude and behaviour. She is a Fellow of the IFST and a registered Sensory Scientist.
