The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) has announced changes to its Board of Trustees for the 2026/27 year, marking both a moment of transition and an opportunity to recognise the significant contributions of those stepping down from their roles. IFST extends our sincere thanks to four Trustees whose dedication and leadership have helped shape the organisation’s impact in recent years. Alec Kyriakides, Vice President (People), has played a central role in strengthening IFST’s focus on professional development and member engagement, supporting initiatives that have enhanced the value of membership across all career stages. As Publications Committee Chair, Valia Christidou has overseen the continued development and quality of IFST’s publications portfolio, ensuring that members and the wider community have access to authoritative, relevant and forward-looking content. She has also overseen the transition of our portfolio to open access publishing, as well as the launch of Translational Food Sciences. John Points, Scientific Committee Chair, has provided vital leadership in advancing IFST’s scientific voice, helping to position the Institute at the forefront of key technical and regulatory discussions affecting the food sector. Finally, Wayne Martindale, Honorary Secretary, has contributed significantly to the governance and strategic direction of IFST, supporting the organisation through a period of growth and increased visibility. Their collective expertise and commitment have been instrumental in strengthening IFST’s role as the professional body for food science and technology in the UK. As IFST looks ahead, a new cohort of Trustees brings fresh perspectives and continued leadership across key areas of the organisation. Selverani Elahi MBE joins as Vice President (People). With extensive experience across the food sector and a strong track record in championing diversity, inclusion and professional development, she is well placed to further enhance IFST’s people-focused initiatives. Taking on the role of Publications Committee Chair, Ed Fox will lead the ongoing evolution of IFST’s publications, ensuring they continue to reflect the latest developments, insights and innovations across the discipline. Alexis Guest assumes the position of Scientific Committee Chair, bringing expertise that will support IFST’s mission to advance scientific excellence and provide evidence-based leadership on critical issues facing the food system. Completing the new appointments, Mita Lad takes on the role of Honorary Secretary, where she will play a key role in supporting the Institute’s governance and strategic priorities. These appointments come at an important time for IFST, as the organisation continues to build on its recent achievements and expand its influence across industry, academia and policy. The transition reflects both continuity and renewal, ensuring that IFST remains well positioned to support its members and contribute to the advancement of the food profession. The Institute looks forward to working with its new Trustees and extends its deepest gratitude to those who have completed their terms. Together, their contributions reinforce IFST’s commitment to excellence, integrity and impact across the food science and technology community.
