Wayne Morley

Wayne was nominated as Volunteer of the Week for helping as a mentor at the IFST Student LaunchPad and for his constant support of IFST

How does it feel to be recognised as Volunteer of the Week?

I feel honoured and very pleased to be recognised in this way.

Why is it important to be a member of a body like IFST?

Being a member of IFST recognises both my experience and expertise, and enhances my credibility as a food scientist. It provides a forum for discussing and networking with like-minded individuals, as well as giving me the opportunity to support and develop the next general of food scientists.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about  a career in  Food Science?

I would advise someone to throw themselves in at the deep end as early as possible by carrying out work experience and taking holiday jobs to see what it’s really like. They should encourage their schools and universities to organise trips and participate in events such as the IFST Lauchpad, and visit food research establishments such as Leatherhead.

Tell us something about yourself that not many people know.

I have cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats. It took 10 days, covering around 95 miles a day.
