The tour will concentrate on the brewery and brewing process. Attendees will also be introduced to the distillery and how that links into the brewery. The tour will end with a tasting session.

Host: Deb Smith, Global Hygiene Specialist, Vikan
Deb has over 35 years of food safety/research training and experience. Prior to joining Vikan, she worked for 3 years as a microbiologist at a large poultry production site; 16 years with DEFRA as a Scientific Officer in the Food Safety Division; and for 9 years as Food Hygiene Research Manager at Campden BRI managing research projects and providing training and support to the food industry regarding food hygiene. Deb holds qualifications in Applied Microbiology (HNC), Nutrition & Food Science (BSc (Hons)), Advanced Food Hygiene and HACCP. She is also a qualified FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor.
Deb regularly presents her research at National and International food safety events and has authored/co-authored numerous food safety/hygiene publications, including peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and several food industry hygiene guidelines. Deb is an active Committee Member of the UK regional section of the EHEDG and a Fellow of the IFST. She is also current Chair of the Microbiology MIG at Campden BRI and has recently joined the IFST Scientific Committee and the UK IAFP Affiliate as Treasurer. At Vikan Deb provides internal food safety and hygiene advice, training, and support. She is also available to conduct food industry hygiene/food safety site visits and workshops and support the food industry through the provision of bespoke hygiene training and advice.
Speaker: Fergus Fitzgerald, Head of Production, Adnams Brewery and Distillery
Fergus Fitzgerald was born in Limerick, Ireland. Studied Biotechnology in Waterford. First stepped into the world of brewing in 1995 at Fullers Smith & Turner in London, then a short stint at Murphy’s brewery in Cork, then back to Fullers in 1997 for 7 years during which time I was encouraged to train as a Brewer by Georgina Young. Moved to Adnams in 2004 as assistant brewer, becoming Head brewer in 2008. Helped install a new modern brewhouse in 2007, adding a distillery, new tank farm, kegging line and most recently a dealcoholiser.
Important Information: Attendees must be18 years old or over. Please wear flat, closed-toed shoes as some of the areas may be wet, require the climbing of stairs, operating heavy equipment. The site is only accessible by car, and on-road, and paid public car parking is limited
