This webinar will cover the following
- A brief discussion on the importance of sustainability and sustainable food and beverage products
- An overview of the UK green claims code of practice and why it is important to comply in the context of regulatory requirements. Examples of recent enforcement activity in the UK, including in the Food and Beverage advertising space
- A global approach to making Green claims taking into consideration regulations and guidance in the US, Australian and French markets. Also touching on the EU approach i.e. the use of the claim ‘Carbon Neutral’ in the EU.
What participants will learn about
- How to make sure green claims made on food and beverage labels, or in advertising are compliant, in accordance with current best practice and legislation.
- Green claims are claims about a product's environmental credentials, (excluding existing schemes such as the Eco label and Organic Foods)
Target audience: Food and beverage companies who wish to manufacture environmentally sound products, and who also want to communicate these benefits to consumers in a compliant manner.

Luke has been an IFST Food Regulatory committee member since 2012, and was chair of the comittee from 2013-2015. Luke has also worked at Leatherhead Food Research since 2006 (first in the regulatory team and more recently as VP of key accounts), and before joining Leatherhead worked in industry for 5 years, in various product development roles (for companies such as Unilever and Mars Petcare) and technical/auditing role with Leathams Ltd. Luke is the sustainability champion at Leatherhead with a keen interest in emerging regulations on sustainability, and has a BSc in Food Science from the University of Leeds.

Stuart Helmer is Of Counse at international law firm CMS, where he also heads its highly ranked UK Advertising and Marketing practice. He has nearly 20 years' experience of advising clients in the food and beverage sector, among others, on advertising and marketing and intellectual property issues, focusing on brand protection and consumer law compliance. His clients range from new market entrants to the largest multinational businesses. Stuart leads ongoing advertising compliance programmes for several major advertisers, acts in advertising disputes both before the ASA and in the High Court, and advises major retailers on consumer law compliance. Stuart is individually ranked in the major Legal 500 directory as a leading advertising lawyer.

Felicity 'Flick' McLean has spent the last 15 years working at the inersection of sustainability, communications, and social innovation, working with global brands and impact organisations.
In her role as Associate Director of Sustainability Engagement at WPP, she's on a mission to harness the transformative power of creativity for an inclusive, net zero society by engaging the group's 100,000+ creative minds, clients and partners. Since joining WPP, Flick has co-created the WPP Green Claims Guide - a tool and training for the agency group to support clients in making effective Green Claims that are credible, creative and actionable.
Before her time at WPP, Flick served as a Senior Sustainability Consultant at Salterbaxter, guiding clients through sustainability positioning, strategy development, innovative partnerships, and stakeholder activation. In her role are Director of Partnership Design at Ashoka, the world's leading network of systems-changing social entrepreneurs, she designed, launched, and oversaw more than 10 global innovation challenges, sourcing, supporting and scaling social innovation across a wide spectrum of sustainability issues in partnership with leading brands and businesses.
