Speaker:

Stuart Musgrove - Food Law Enforcement Consultant

Raised in a rural setting where self-sufficiency was key, Stuart began his career working for his uncle, a local butcher, before studying biology and chemistry at college. He spent two decades at the City of Leicester Public Analysts Laboratory, initially focusing on microbiology before developing expertise in analytical chemistry. His work supported the food industry and addressed environmental issues like metal contamination of soils and water pollution. Later, he joined London South Bank University, specialising in food analysis, quality assurance, and food law. Three years later he set up and developed a new unit for Somerset County Council, incorporating their enforcement responsibilities in food law and animal health and welfare. After retiring in 2004, he continued contributing to food enforcement training issues and later worked on 'the other side' as a technical consultant for a spice manufacturer in Devon.
