IFST Food Safety Group highlights the importance of positive food safety culture

In recognition of the UN World Food Safety Day, IFST Food Safety Group is hosting an interactive event on 6 June 2019 that will highlight the importance of delivering a positive food safety culture.

The event entitled ‘Delivering a Positive Food Safety Culture - A Practical Approach’ will feature stimulating presentations from Sterling Crew, Chair of IFST Food Safety Group and Managing Director, SQS Ltd, and Denis Treacy, Chief Technical Officer, Culture Compass Ltd, who between them have over 60 years’ experience in the food supply chain. They will review current best practice and share their experience on the challenges of delivering a positive food safety culture.

Culture is increasingly cited in reports and papers related to food safety incidents and outbreaks and is also being identified as a significant emerging risk factor in food fraud. The challenge for food businesses is to inoculate a food safety culture into their operations so that good practice is second nature and embraced from the boardroom to the shop floor.

Sterling Crew said: “I believe that only by understanding and changing a food handler’s behaviour, we will be able to embed food safety into an organisation’s culture and drive improvement. I am really looking forward to the interactive workshop. It will be great to get the view of food safety culture from the group.”
