IFST Podcast: All you need to know about current food allergen legislation, Natasha’s law and everything in between

IFST has launched a new podcast episode on food allergy. This conversation, now available on YouTube, intends to help businesses and consumers understand how food allergies arise, the current UK and EU legislation to help prevent risk of allergic reactions and the importance of the new food allergen labelling requirements that will apply from 1 October 2021.

The episode was published on 29 April 2021, during Allergy Awareness Week which takes place from 26-30 April 2021. IFST recognises the importance of raising awareness around the types of food hypersensitivities and has created various forms of guidance for both consumers (a factsheet on food allergens) and food businesses (an information statement on food allergens). In this episode, Deborah Kendale, Business Development Director (IFST) interviewed Rachel Ward, Scientific Policy Director (IFST) to provide an update on the latest scientific information and food labelling legislation. On the launch of this IFST podcast episode on food allergy, Rachel Ward comments “Clear allergen risk communication through accurate ingredient and allergen declarations can provide the protection needed for those with food hypersensitivities It’s not an easy subject to understand, but there are some key rules of the road you can apply. Podcasts provide a unique way to explain concepts and capture key messages with nuance that the written word can’t provide. There’s nothing like hearing a topic discussed by those in the know.”
