HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE RECOGNISED AS VOLUNTEER OF THE WEEK?

It was the last thing I expected to see in my inbox! I feel quite chuffed to be recognised for the work I have done for IFST.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE A MEMBER OF A BODY LIKE IFST?

With the dawn of the ‘knowledge economy’ it is more important than ever to gain membership of a body like IFST. Not only does it recognise and acknowledge its members' experience and expertise, it is an excellent networking opportunity to meet with like-minded passionate professionals as well as permitting access to a wide range of CPD opportunities.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR CURRENT ROLE

I am employed as the technical manager for Raynor Foods, my main role is to manage and develop the food safety and quality management systems of the business. My current role is very challenging and fast paced, I enjoy the investigating and problem solving elements of my job and there are new and interesting challenges almost every day!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT A CAREER IN FOOD SCIENCE?

If your passionate about your subject and have an eagerness to learn and grow in your field then I strongly suggest you set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd to demonstrate how passionate you are about your subject! You can do this by contacting organisations directly for work experience during your holidays, attending conferences, signing up to industry newsletters and by requesting school or university trips to industry and career events like the IFST's student Launchpad.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW.

I am a Games Workshop geek.
