Scottish Government plans to restrict the promotion and marketing of food and drink high in fat, sugar and salt

The Scottish Government has launched a new consultation to seek views on its proposal to restrict the promotion and marketing of food and drink high in fat, sugar and salt, with little or no beneficial nutritional value where they are sold to the public.

The restrictions would cover confectionery, sweet biscuits, crisps, savoury snacks, cakes, pastries, pudding and soft drinks with added sugar. Views are being sought on whether to cover ice-cream and dairy desserts.

The restrictions would apply to any place where targeted foods are sold to the public, including retail and out of home outlets. Restrictions to online sale are also being considered.

The closing date for submissions is 9 January 2019.
