IFST Education & Careers Forum: strengthening the food sector talent pipeline

On 20 November 2018, IFST launched its first annual education and careers forums at Food Matters Live. The event, hosted by Professor Richard Frazier, University of Reading and IFST Education & Careers Chair, brought together representatives from across the sector, including education providers, employers and sector bodies.  The first forum discussed the new T levels which will come into force in 2020.  These will provide an alternative for A levels and will offer 16-18 year olds technical programmes designed with industry skills in mind.   The forum also discussed the success of apprenticeships, including degree apprenticeship and explored alternative paths into food science and technology.
